She is a frequent lecturer on national and international family law, having recently given conferences in Algeciras, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Mexico, Madrid, Montevideo and Dakar.

Carmen has been consulted on numerous occasions by the press, radio and television, and has been mentioned as an expert in prestigious publications such as La Vanguardia, Expansión and ABC.

In addition to being the creator and administrator of the LinkedIn group “Family Law”, which currently includes 12,000 lawyers, judges and professionals specialised in family law from all over the world, she was the creator of the first family law blog in Catalonia and has been selected several times as one of the most influential family lawyers on social media (Top Influencers).

Graduated in Law from the University of Barcelona in 1992, mediator, lawyer at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Barcelona, and collaborative lawyer.

She is the managing partner of Carmen Varela, Abogados de Familia and specialises in child custody, national and international divorce, termination of civil partnerships, child abduction, transfer of children to other countries, parentage, prenuptial agreements, exequatur, modifications of judgments, claims for compensatory pensions and financial compensation, incapacity and minors.

She is Vice-President of the Family Section of the ICAB (Ilustre Colegio de la Abogacía de Barcelona -Bar Association of Barcelona-), professor of the Master in Family and Children’s Law of the University of Barcelona; Postgraduate Degree in Family and Children’s Law and Master in Mediation of the ICAB and Master in Law and Master in Family and Children’s Law of the ISDE (Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía -Higher Institute of Law and Economics-), as well as Expert in International Family Law of the same private university.
